There are two little parts of tales here to share. The Longendale Lights and the Devil’s Elbow.

The Longendale Lights might not be unique in their nature but they certainly attract interest. They could be part of a natural phenomena of Earth Lights but is that all they are? Some suggestions also say that the lights witnessed across the night sky might be UFO’s or paranormal phenomena.

The lights are similar to the type of thing report in Norway and the Marfa Lights in America.

Often the lights are recorded over the marshes and are believed to be ignited gas. This often gets argued against as the lights tend to be seen to move around and change direction in a way not considered usual for that particular theory.

Another theory are fairy lights, or perhaps a mischievous spirit taking a light across the moors. In fact I am sure there are an abundance of ideas behind them but should you see them and get any pictures I would LOVE to see them!

The Devil’s Elbow

In legend the Devils Elbow is said to have been a meeting place for two lovers, their father was against the union and swore that he would rather the Devil take his daughter than have them meet again. On their next meeting the Devil appeared and chased the terrified couple across the moor.

As the Devil reached out to claim his prize a mighty voice cried out and the devils bent arm turned to stone. He ripped it out and threw it on the moor forming the bend in the road.

In more recent times a strange black form sliding from the moorland across the road has been witnessed in the vicinity of the Devil’s Elbow.
