The Hypogeum of Paolo, Malta is a subterranean structure from 3000-2500 BC. It may originally have been a sanctuary but became a necropolis and the remains of some 7,000 and more individuals have been found.

In 1980 the World Heritage List was updated to contain the Hypogeum, after restoration in the 1990’s the site has since re-opened and allows for entry for 60 people a day.

The structure was discovered in 1902 by accident when building workers broke through into the roof of the complex.

If you want to go and see this piece of history when you are in the area it is suggested that you book your tickets well in advance.

Crop circles hoaxed or possibly those still unclaimed for are another phenomenon with a wide and varied history. They are also quite artistic in my opinion and so worth a mention on the blog.

Crop Circles are geometric patterns, they can be fairly simple or quite intricate. They are best viewed from the air, they were first seen in fields as early as the 1970’s.

There was a significant amount noted that many were found in the ritual landscape of England. They were close to Stonehenge and Avebury, and also some others were notably reported in Indonesia and Australia.

In the 1980’s meteorologists speculated that freak winds could flatten crops, by some sort of ‘vortex action’. Another theory had been put forward that it was the Earth talking to us, a mysterious “earth force”.

Doug Bower and Dave Chorley claimed that they started making them in England, 1978. They went on to create over 200, since the 1980’s and there have also been crop circle competitions alongside some TV documentaries that explained how to make them.

The simplest way is a wooden board to flatten the stalks, get a farmers permission, and a rope to use as the anchor to keep the circle.

There are however still reports of strange things, such as radiation in the area, bizarre burn marks on the crop stalks and reports of Men In Black showing an interest.
