The well-known local spook of the Lake District, England has a monk who was to care for the fallen women and their souls. He is said to have fallen in love with one of them but she rejected him. His response was to wail all day and night until he finally dropped dead, this didn’t stop his wails though…

The Ferrymen that operated a boat service from Ferry Nab to Sawyer would generally ignore the sounds and calls from the west of the lake assuming it was the monk’s haunted cries. One day a new recruit, who took the whole thing as a rumour went over, he came back the next day quite mad and perished two days later without a word about what had occurred.
