Judia-Cordiglia Brothers

Two former radio amateurs gave 50 years worth of interest (and still ongoing) for space conspiracy enthusiasts. In the 1960’s they claimed they had recording that showed the Soviet Space program covered up the deaths of Cosmonauts. These claims have met with rebuttals and the interests continues but that’s why I think it’s a great one for this blog.

They claimed to have monitored transmissions from the Soviet Sputnik program and Explorer 1. They said this included other recordings, like the sounds of a lost cosmonaut who was dying. 28th November 1960, one of those was also an SOS signal that was moving away from the Earth’s orbit and their information was picked up by a Swiss-Italian radio station who took them on as their space experts.

They also made a further claim that they had heard of a female cosmonaut yelling “I am hot” amongst other parts of that transmission. They stated that this was the sounds of her transmitting before she burnt up.

In total they had released nine recordings over a course of years:

• May 1960, a manned spacecraft reporting its going off course.
• 28th November 1960 the faint sounds of an SOS transmission as a spacecraft left orbit.
• February 1961, the recorded sounds of a cosmonaut suffocating.
• April 1961, capsule recorded orbiting Earth three times before it entered Earth’s atmosphere and this was days before Yuri Gagarin took flight.
• October 1961, a cosmonaut looses control of his ship and goes into deep space.
• November 1962, a capsule misjudges re-entry bouncing off the Earth’s atmosphere it then goes out into space.
• November 1963, a female cosmonaut dies during re-entry.
• April 1964, another cosmonaut killed when their capsule burns up in the Earth’s atmosphere.

People that have analysed this have stated they are dubious that certain protocol appears to have been ignored during those transmissions, for instance that the cosmonauts had not identified themselves during those transmissions. You could of course argue that burning up in space is a pretty good reason to forget this right?

There seem to be a lot of grammatical errors, or errors in sentence construction when it was generally accepted that the Soviet’s would only use highly trained and educated native speakers but again you could argue that panic would ensue and even the most articulate of people are going to loose that.

The technology the Soviet’s were using may well have been sending dogs into space but there is no suggestion they had enough technology to be putting a manned craft out of the orbit by that stage.

Another factor that was given to consideration, and perhaps this is the one that might convince me – with all the other countries listening into the space race and monitoring these transmissions why hadn’t the professionals found them too? The other countries would have little to no reason to avoid giving up that information as they were all in the race so-to-speak. So why did it fall to two amateur radio enthusiasts who self-taught themselves to get such potentially controversial details out into the public?

Tequendama Falls

The Tequendama Falls Museum of Biochemistry and Culture (what a mouthful eh?) is both a museum and mansion in Columbia. Before it was renovated the beautiful site sat abandoned for some time and it was rumoured that the hotel was/is haunted.

In the 90’s it was left abandoned for nearly two decades because of river contamination. The hotel itself is by an amazing waterfall, it sadly became a spot well-known for suicides too.

Guests at the hotel reported whispers, restless souls and people having had their hair pulled by unknown assailants. The were also reports that some people had woken up with scratches on their face.

 

Bara-Hack

Bara-Hack are the remnants of a hamlet in Connecticut, USA, that was said to have been founded by two Welsh men and their family. The settlers were Obadiah Higginbottom and John Randall, they came to the area with their families and the name Bara-Hack is a Welsh term meaning ‘breaking of bread’. By 1890 the community had been abandoned, it may well have occurred sometime before the Civil War.

The remnants include foundations, walls of the derelict buildings and a cemetery. 19th Century records for both the village and cemetery mention obscure sounds, singing, laughter and the rumble of wagon wheels despite no inhabitants. There are also reports of animal sounds but alone this doesn’t spell anything strange, from what I could find to consider animal sounds in a wood strange I would need further context as to why.

Pollepel Island

New York, just off the shore of the Hudson River hosts a medieval style castle that can be seen on the island more often locally referred to as Bannerman’s. It was once emblazoned on the walls of the castle as ‘Bannerman’s Arsenal’ but now has decayed too much to be seen fully. It was built around 1901 to 1908, to be a warehouse for the weapons traded by Francis Bannerman VI, who was an arms dealer and curious man.

In 1967 the Island was sold for a small sum to the New York State, and the family abandoned the island. In 1969 a fire left the island in it’s present and ruined state.

It is accessible by boat, and far too dangerous to swim with tides, there is a security presence but all is not lost, there’s possibilities of tours in the future.

Meanwhile for a chance to safely see it, if you are in the area, go to Route 9D, go to Breakneck Point and park. Cross the bridge but watch out for trains!

 

Great Isaac Cay

An island that is only accessible by boat, it’s a small Bahamian Island and it’s most prominent feature is it’s lighthouse.

The lighthouse was erected in 1859 and rumours, from some, say that when there is a full moon strange noises are heard on the island. In the late 19th Century local lore says an infant was the only survivor of  a shipwreck on the island. A Grey Lady, the mother, is said to be so distraught that she roams the island. She waits in sorrow and vain during the full moon.

4th August, 1969 two of the keepers abandoned the island, they were never found. Some claim that they were taken by the Bermuda Triangle. It might not have been such a mystery however, as Hurricane Anna passed close by at that time.

It is currently said to be possible for the public to visit.
